Barrack Life in Stanley Park

Peggy Jarvis

CWAC

While I was stationed at the CWAC barracks in the Vancouver Hotel, I was moved to a barracks in Stanley Park for one month. I believe our barracks were near Brockton Point. We were taken back and forth each day to work in an Army Transport Truck.

Although our barracks and canteen were very nice, we felt very isolated in the evenings because we didn't have transportation to go into the city for a show, or to visit the Service Centres or anything else. Sometimes they would put on a BBQ for us, but we still longed for the freedom others had being stationed in the City.

When the Vancouver Hotel was closed down some months later after V.E. Day, everyone in our office then moved out to Sea Island.
