Court Martial Story

Madeline Hicks

CWAC

I joined in London, Ontario, March 1942. I took the NCO course at Saint Anne de Bellevue, Quebec. I was discharged in Oakville Ontario with the rank of Coy.

Quartermaster Sergeant, Sept. 1946. When I was stationed at Windsor, Ontario, a sub depot which took the overload of recruits from London, Ontario, there were about twenty CWAC stationed there. There was a soldier about to be court - martialed, for what I can't remember. The OC felt that the CWAC should be present along with the men to witness this procedure.

The Court -Martial was held at 10:00 hours on a cold, damp, winter's day. We were called to attention on the parade ground while the charges were being read. We also witnessed the soldier's insignias being stripped from his uniform. It was a very sobering sight, and one that none of us will ever forget.
