I was Corporal in charge of CWAC, MIR, and Sick Bay in Edmonton.
At the University of Edmonton Hospital the returning wounded servicemen were being sent by plane and some by train for treatment there. The hospital was receiving a lot of very bad cases. These wounded servicemen were from all parts of Canada. Unless volunteers donated time to visit, talk shop, write letters, etc for these servicemen, they would have very little outside contact.
Without a doubt any visit was a morale builder for the wounded, but I found it a very rewarding experience to donate time visiting at the hospital. Thinking back, it truly was one of my most memorable experiences during my posting at Edmonton.
