National Film Unit

Alice Brandt

CWAC

I was overseas from December 1942, in London as an accounting clerk. Then I was assigned to the National Film unit from 1943-1945.

An interesting part of my army career occurred overseas when I was transferred to Wimbledon, south of London, where I was attached to the National film Unit.

At the National Film Unit we processed all photography that was taken by different units of active service. The films were censored and made into News Reels for the troops.

The censored portions from the films were stored in "Top Secret Vaults" These censored films are now being released to help make or complete scenes in documentary or war films that we see today on TV. Not long ago I watched the mini series "War and Remembrance" on TV.

Many of the war scenes were from files I had sat through and censored!!
