Naked But At Attention

Marion Wallace

RCAF WD

I enlisted in the Air Force in Vancouver on august 21, 1943. I went to wireless school in Montreal. We called "The Jail On The hill" but actually most of us enjoyed our stay there.

I spent a year and a half at RCAF Station Sydney, Nova Scotia. We were an operational station and wireless sub- control for our area, so we used our wireless training to good advantage here.

Shortly before the end of the war I was posted to RCAF Station Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. I also spent a short time at wireless Control Halifax.

Among the students at the Wireless School was a young Russian Canadian girl who had been an aspiring ballet dancer in civilian life. She was strong minded, tall, slim, and in superb physical condition. She kept that way by going through a series of dance exercises several times a day while taking an "air bath" in the nude, which she maintained was necessary for the health. The rest of us had set up a sort of "warning system" by which we could ensure that she was either decently clothed or safely tucked away out of sight whenever either an Official Inspection Party or any other men came through the barracks. One weekend however our system broke down. As we were busy discussing our weekend plans, we didn't hear the warning call.

The Inspection Party was upon us and the command "Attention!" was given before we could do more than move to our respective beds and stand at attention.

Olga didn't seem to mind at all, but judging from the tide of red suffusing his neck and face, the young Duty Officer got quite a shock when he discovered Olga standing at attention by her bed stark naked!! After the Inspection Party passed out of the barracks, we collapsed in helpless laughter, so rigidly suppressed during those endless ten minutes or so.

We Will Remember
