Read the Stories

From the Pacific to the Atlantic, Canadians have answered the call to arms during wartime, just as our Peacekeepers have answered the call to keep peace after conflicts. These are the stories of the Canadians who left the comfort and safety of their homes in cities and on farms to protect our freedom both during and after conflicts and wars. Canadian women played an essential role in the war efforts. If it weren't for the young women that volunteered during WWII, many more men would have had to stay behind in Canada, filling the many necessary jobs. Some of the women's stories are from an in house collection of stories submitted to us by a member of an Ex- Servicewomen's group. If any of those ladies from the booklet would like their story added to, or if any would like to add a picture, please contact us. Americans came north to join the Canadian forces before the USA declared war. We would be honoured to add their stories on this site as well. Also welcomed are stories from Canadian citizens whose parents or grandparents fought for the allies but under a different flag. |
